How to connect an EmDash site to Recollect

Connect your EmDash site to Recollect to send any note to it as a post, a page, or another type of content your site has, either as a draft or published right away. Recollect uploads the note’s images, and its PDF, audio, and video attachments, to your site’s media library.

What you need#

• An EmDash site that uses HTTPS.
• An EmDash API token with the content:read, content:write, and media:write scopes. Add schema:read too if you can: it lets Recollect see all of your site’s content types and link to posts once they’re published. Without it, Recollect offers only posts and pages.

To publish, the token’s account must be allowed to publish on the site, such as an Author, Editor, or Admin. If it isn’t, Recollect saves the note as a draft and tells you.

Create an API token#

1. Sign in to your site’s EmDash admin.
2. Go to Settings → API Tokens.
3. Create a token named Recollect with the scopes above.
4. Copy the token. It starts with ec_pat_ and is only shown once.

Connect the site in Recollect#

1. In Recollect, open Settings and select Integrations.
2. Under Publish to a site, select EmDash as the Site type.
3. In Site address, enter your site’s home address, such as https://example.com.
4. Paste your API token.
5. Select Connect.

Recollect checks the token with your site before it saves the connection, and stores the token encrypted. You can connect up to 10 sites, and use Test or Disconnect on the site’s card at any time.

Send a note to EmDash#

Open a note, select Send to site at the bottom of the note, choose your EmDash site, and select Send. Before you send, you can choose:

• Save as: any type of content your site offers, such as Post or Page. Post is the default.
• Status: Draft, which is always selected to start, or Publish.
• Category, and a Parent for content types that have one.

The note’s tags become tags on the site when the content type has them. YouTube and Vimeo videos play in the post; other video and social media links appear as links. A file attachment that isn’t a PDF, audio, or video file appears as a placeholder line in a draft and is left out of a published post. To move notes to Trash automatically once they’re sent to this site, turn on Move the note to Trash after it’s sent on the site’s card in Settings → Integrations.

If connecting doesn’t work#

• “That doesn’t look like an EmDash site”: check the address.
• “EmDash rejected that API token”: check that you copied the whole token, or create a new one.
• “That token needs at least the content:read scope”: create a new token with the scopes above.
• “This EmDash account can save drafts but can’t publish them”: Recollect saved the note as a draft. Publish it in EmDash, or connect a token from an account that can publish.
