You can send any note to your own WordPress or EmDash site, or to Inkwell, as a draft or published right away. Recollect uploads the note’s images (and its file attachments, where the site accepts them) and gives you a link to the result. This is separate from sharing a note with a link.
Connecting a site
Connect each site once in Settings → Integrations → Publish to a site. You can connect up to 10 sites. The steps for each are here:
- How to connect a WordPress site to Recollect
- How to connect an EmDash site to Recollect
- How to connect Inkwell to Recollect
Recollect checks the credentials before it saves the connection, and stores them encrypted. Use Test to check a connection later, or Disconnect to remove it. Anything already sent to the site stays there.
Each connected site also has a Move the note to Trash after it’s sent option. It’s off until you turn it on.
Sending a note
Once a site is connected, a Send to site button appears at the bottom of every note, between Share note and Export note.
- Open the note and select Send to site.
- Choose the Site.
- Under Save as, choose Post or Page when the site offers both. Post is the default.
- Under Status, choose Draft or Publish. Draft is always selected to start.
- Optionally choose a Category, and for pages, a Parent page when the site supports one.
- Select Send.
The window closes right away and Recollect sends the note in the background. A message at the top of the screen shows its progress, then a link: Open draft for a draft, or View post for a published post. You can keep working while it sends.
If the site is set to move the note to Trash after it’s sent, the window stays open until the site has the note. Then Recollect takes you back to your notes list, moves the note to Trash, and shows the link there. If sending fails, the note isn’t moved. A trashed note can be restored from Settings → Trash for 30 days.
The note’s tags are added as tags on the site when the site supports them. Tags that don’t exist on the site yet are created if your account is allowed to; any tag that can’t be added is skipped.
What gets sent
- The note’s first line becomes the title, and the rest of the note becomes its content.
- Headings, bold, italic, links, lists, quotes, code blocks, tables, and horizontal rules.
- Checklists. On Inkwell they stay checklists; elsewhere they’re bulleted lists with ☐ and ☑ marks.
- Images, uploaded to the site with their alt text. The post uses the uploaded copies.
- File attachments, uploaded to the site’s media library when the site accepts that type of file, and linked by name. A file the site doesn’t take is a placeholder line in a draft and is left out of a published post. Inkwell doesn’t accept file attachments.
- Videos and social media posts, as their links. WordPress shows YouTube, Vimeo, Bluesky, X, Reddit, and TikTok links as embeds, and EmDash and Inkwell play YouTube and Vimeo videos. Other links, including Recollect videos (which link to their video page), appear as links.
- A table of contents is left out, and links to other Recollect notes become plain text.
Each time you send a note, Recollect creates a new post; it doesn’t update one it created earlier. Scheduling and the featured image are done on your site. On Inkwell, a published note is a public entry.
If sending doesn’t work
- “This account can save drafts but can’t publish them”: Recollect saved the note as a draft instead. Publish it on the site, or connect an account that can publish.
- “Recollect couldn’t confirm it was published”: check the site before you send the note again, so you don’t end up with two copies.
- “Cloudflare’s bot protection … is blocking Recollect”: see How to let Recollect send notes to a site that uses Cloudflare.
- A security plugin or firewall on your site can also block Recollect. The Cloudflare article lists the IP addresses Recollect connects from.
- For problems connecting, see the article for your site: WordPress, EmDash, or Inkwell.
