Connect your WordPress site to Recollect to send any note to it as a post or page, either as a draft or published right away. Recollect uploads the note’s images and file attachments to your site’s media library.
What you need
- A WordPress site that uses HTTPS.
- A WordPress account that can create posts and upload media: an Author, Editor, or Administrator. Contributor accounts can’t upload media, so they can’t be connected.
- An application password for that account. Application passwords are built into WordPress 5.6 and later. Some security plugins and hosts turn them off; if you don’t see them in your profile, check your security plugin’s settings or ask your host.
Authors can send and publish posts. Editors and Administrators can also send and publish pages.
Create an application password
- Sign in to your WordPress dashboard.
- Go to Users → Profile.
- Scroll down to Application Passwords.
- In New Application Password Name, enter Recollect.
- Select Add New Application Password.
- Copy the password WordPress shows. It’s only shown once.
Connect the site in Recollect
- In Recollect, open Settings and select Integrations.
- Under Publish to a site, select WordPress as the Site type.
- In Site address, enter your site’s home address, such as
https://example.com. Sites installed in a subfolder, such ashttps://example.com/blog, aren’t supported yet. - Enter your WordPress Username and the Application password you copied.
- Select Connect.
Recollect checks the username and password with your site before it saves the connection, and stores the password encrypted. You can connect up to 10 sites, and use Test or Disconnect on the site’s card at any time.
Send a note to WordPress
Open a note, select Send to site at the bottom of the note, choose your WordPress site, and select Send. Before you send, you can choose:
- Save as: Post or Page. Page appears for Editor and Administrator accounts.
- Status: Draft, which is always selected to start, or Publish.
- Category for a post, or a Parent page for a page.
The note’s tags become WordPress tags on posts. YouTube, Vimeo, Bluesky, X, Reddit, and TikTok links appear as embeds. For everything Recollect sends, see how to send a note to a site.
To move notes to Trash automatically once they’re sent to this site, turn on Move the note to Trash after it’s sent on the site’s card in Settings → Integrations.
If connecting doesn’t work
- “That doesn’t look like a WordPress site”: check the address. Some security plugins turn off the WordPress REST API, which Recollect needs.
- “WordPress rejected that username or application password”: check the username and create a new application password.
- “That WordPress user can’t create posts or upload media”: connect an Author, Editor, or Administrator account.
- “Cloudflare’s bot protection … is blocking Recollect”: see the Cloudflare article.
- A security plugin or firewall on your site can also block Recollect. The Cloudflare article lists the IP addresses Recollect connects from.
