Recollect has an MCP server, so AI assistants like Claude can work with your notes. They can find and summarize notes, create new ones, add to existing ones, and keep them tagged. You sign in to approve each assistant, choose what it can do, and can disconnect it at any time.
The Recollect MCP server address is:
https://server.recollect.fyi/mcpUse this exact address. app.recollect.fyi/mcp won't work.
Connect Claude
- In Claude, open Settings → Connectors and add a custom connector.
- Name it Recollect and enter
https://server.recollect.fyi/mcpas the URL. - Select Connect. A Recollect page opens; sign in if you're asked to.
- Review what Claude is asking for, then select Authorize.
To use it, turn on Recollect from the tools menu in a chat, then ask Claude about your notes.
Claude Code
Add the server from your terminal:
claude mcp add --transport http recollect https://server.recollect.fyi/mcpThen run /mcp in Claude Code, select recollect, and sign in to authorize it.
Connect another AI app
Any app that supports remote MCP servers with sign-in (OAuth) can connect to Recollect. Add a new MCP server in the app, enter https://server.recollect.fyi/mcp, and sign in to Recollect when the app asks.
What you're authorizing
When you connect an app, Recollect shows which account it's connecting to and what the app is asking to do:
- Read your notes, tags, and sharing status
- Create, append to, tag, trash, and restore notes, if the app asks for write access
Granting write access needs a second confirmation: your password, an authenticator code, or a passkey. If your account has none of these, add one in Settings → Security first.
The page also shows where you'll be sent after you authorize. Only continue if you started the connection yourself.
What an AI assistant can do
Read your notes:
- Search your notes using the same search terms as Recollect: words, "exact phrases", #tags,
intitle:,before:andafter:dates, filetype:,is:public,is:shared, andis:duplicate - Open a note, list your recent notes, or see what changed since a given time
- List your tags and the notes in your Trash
- See who has access to a note, and who's in your team workspace
With write access:
- Create a note, with tags
- Add text to the end of a note you can edit
- Add or remove tags on a note
- Move a note you own to the Trash, and restore it
Every note an assistant finds or creates comes with a link, so you can jump straight to it in Recollect.
Things to try:
- "Search my Recollect notes for anything about the Q4 launch and summarize it."
- "Create a Recollect note with a packing list for a weekend camping trip, tagged #Travel."
- "Add today's action items to the end of my Project Phoenix note."
- "Which of my #Research notes changed this week?"
What it can't do
- Change or remove text that's already in a note. It can only add to the end.
- Permanently delete a note. Notes it moves to the Trash can be restored for 30 days.
- Change sharing or who has access to a note.
- Download files attached to notes.
- Trash a note you don't own, or add to or trash a contact note from Contact Garden.
An assistant can only reach notes you can open in Recollect, and notes it creates count toward your plan's note limit.
Your notes and the AI service
When an assistant reads a note, that note's content is sent to the AI service you connected and handled under that service's privacy policy. Only connect services you trust with your notes. To learn how Recollect protects your notes, see How Recollect keeps your notes secure.
See or disconnect connected apps
Open Settings → Security and go to Connected apps. Each app shows what it can do and when it was last used. Select Disconnect to remove its access right away; you can reconnect it later.
Resetting your password, changing your email address, or using Sign out everywhere also disconnects every connected app.
